Evidence from the UNIDO-ZDA Pilot Survey of Foreign Direct Investment Enterprises
The report presents a comprehensive view of foreign direct investment dynamics in Zambia. Conducted jointly by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and UNIDO, the survey captures investor experiences, reinvestment trends, sectoral performance, and key drivers of business expansion.
Findings highlight both opportunities and challenges: while most firms plan to expand, reinvestment levels are set to decline, especially among SMEs, and manufacturing shows slower growth compared to other sectors. Investors cite economic stability, rule of law, and market potential as top enablers, but also point to regulatory and financial hurdles as barriers.
The report recommends strengthening aftercare services, accelerating digital transformation, refining ZDA’s mandate, and addressing emerging challenges in reinvestment and sectoral growth. By acting on these insights, Zambia can enhance investor confidence, deepen local linkages, and strengthen its position as a preferred investment destination aligned with Vision 2030.
