Overview

Morocco’s manufacturing sector is a cornerstone of its economic transformation and one of the country’s top investment priorities. Through successive industrial strategies, Morocco has developed competitive industrial ecosystems integrated into global value chains, positioning itself as a leading manufacturing hub in Africa and the Mediterranean.

Key industrial ecosystems include automotive and mobility, aerospace, electronics, textiles and apparel, pharmaceuticals, and agro-industry. Industrial acceleration zones, free zones, and logistics platforms provide serviced land, infrastructure, and streamlined procedures, enabling export-oriented production and technological upgrading. Increasing focus is placed on industrial decarbonization, automation, and higher value-added activities.

Economic Contribution

Manufacturing contributes around 16-17% of GDP and is a major driver of exports, foreign direct investment, and employment. Morocco is Africa’s leading automotive exporter, with strong backward and forward linkages across components, logistics, engineering, and services. Aerospace and electronics manufacturing further reinforce industrial diversification and skills development.

The sector supports hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs and stimulates demand for energy, transport, professional services, and skilled labor. Compliance with international standards and integration into European and global markets enhance competitiveness and resilience across industrial value chains.

Outlook

Morocco is well positioned to deepen industrial upgrading and expand its export capacity. Government priorities include strengthening local supplier integration, increasing technological content, promoting green manufacturing, and positioning Morocco as a near-shoring destination for European markets.

Strategic opportunities lie in electric mobility, automotive components, aerospace systems, pharmaceuticals, advanced textiles, electronics assembly, and industrial services. With strong public-private coordination, modern infrastructure, and preferential market access, Morocco offers a resilient and export-ready industrial platform for long-term investors.
