More about the forum

Since 2001, the OECD Global Forum on Competition has been bringing together high-level officials  from both OECD and non-OECD economies. Joined by representatives of international organisations and invited experts, participants debate and discuss key topics on the global competition agenda.

The programme includes OECD-style roundtable discussions, presentations from notable experts as well as peer reviews. Discussion topics benefit from the input of the OECD Competition Committee whose work has already generated substantial results in many countries and economies, such as the voluntary adoption of ‘best practices’, substantial analytical convergence, the establishment of strong networks of enforcement authorities, and enhanced co-operation.

The Forum provides knowledge sharing and the opportunity to exchange amongst high-level officials leading to more international co-operation and possible collaboration. High-level officials from LAC, MENA and Asia-Pacific also take the opportunity to hold meetings in preparation for regional annual forums.

Roundtable discussions during the forum promote re‌gular exchanges of views and analysis on competition policy issues. Topics are chosen by participating delegations and invited experts are also brought to share their experience on the topic. Materials available include experiences from each country, background notes and experts papers and presentations.

Peer Reviews of Competition Law and Policy are a valuable tool for countries to reform and strengthen their competition frameworks. They rely on the willingness of a country to submit its law and policies to substantive analysis by their peers. Up to date, over 10 reviews of competition regimes were carried out during the Global Forum.

This session will explore the current competition regime in Kenya and assess its effectiveness. The session will also seek to identify key recommendations to help Kenya strengthen its competition regime and institutions.
